LP SmartSide siding

How we approach lp smartside siding

LP SmartSide is made from wood strands bonded with resins and treated against rot and termites. It comes in long lengths, so there are fewer joints, and it handles impacts better than fiber cement. It is easy to cut and work, which keeps labor a little lower.

Like any wood product, it depends on details. The bottom edges and cut ends must be sealed, boards need clearance above roofs, decks and grade, and paint has to be kept up. We install to LP’s requirements so the warranty holds, with the same new house wrap and window flashing we use on every re-side.

Compared with James Hardie on the same house, LP SmartSide usually costs about 5 to 10 percent less. Hardie is the choice if you want a material that cannot rot at all; LP is the choice if you want lighter, tougher boards and a lower price.

“Gave an honest and reasonable quote. Restored water damaged siding, looks great. Alex was responsive and gave me a quote for replacing the whole house too, but I opted to wait and just fix the damaged spot. He worked around our window and hvac with no issue.”

FAQ

LP SmartSide siding: common questions

Is LP SmartSide good in a wet climate?
Yes, when it is installed with proper flashing, clearances and sealed cut ends and kept painted. Problems we see come from poor installation, not the board.
LP SmartSide or Hardie: which should I choose?
Hardie cannot rot and is the most common choice here. LP is lighter, resists impacts better and costs a little less. Both are good if installed correctly.
How long does LP SmartSide last?
LP offers a long limited warranty on the substrate. With good installation and regular painting, it should last for decades.
Can LP be painted any color?
Yes. It comes primed or prefinished and can be painted any exterior color.
